Bataan Memorial Death March – To paraphrase the website, the Bataan Memorial Death March is a demanding march through the high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range near Las Cruces NM. “26 MILES OF HIGH DESERT, 26 MILES OF PURE PERSEVERANCE.” The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II, sacrificing their freedom, health, and, in many cases, their very lives. There are many volunteer opportunities at this high-energy event for those who decide not to participate in the march. It is usually scheduled annually in March.

Honolulu Botanical Gardens – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation presently operates five wonderful botanical gardens on Oahu. Known collectively as the Honolulu Botanical Gardens, one is in Wahiawa (our favorite), another is in Kaneohe, one is in Koko Crater and the other two are in Honolulu. Most have self-guided tours available, some (like Foster) have one or more daily docent-led tours, or you may be able to make special arrangements for a group tour.
